While Chhaava has set the cash registers ringing with Vicky Kaushal and Akshaye Khanna impressing audiences with their performances, it seems that some don’t agree with Laxman Utekar’s choice of the actress. South Indian actress Rashmika Mandanna is currently facing criticism online for portraying the Maratha queen Yesubai with many expressing their dislike towards her performance, stating that a Maharashtrian actress should have been roped in to play the role. However, her co-star Divya Dutta has come in support of Mandanna.

In a recent interaction with India Today, as Divya Dutta discusses the extensive success of Chhaava, she also showcased her support towards Rashmika Mandanna, hailing her as a great performer. “Although we didn’t have scenes together, I believe she is an incredible actor. If you look at her kohl-rimmed eyes in certain scenes, they are simply mesmerising,” the actress shared and went on to continue, “Let’s not forget that she has delivered several hits, which clearly means she has something that resonates with the audience. From what I know, she is a hardworking and genuinely sweet person. Mujhe toh bahut pyaari lagti hai (I find her adorable), I don’t know what others think.”
Furthermore, Dutta insisted that they have worked hard and delivered sincere performances, which reflected in the rising box office numbers. “The thing is, everyone will have a different opinion. Some might say, ‘Oh, you should have had a longer role in the film,’ while others might say, ‘Oh, you had a great presence.’ Whether it’s for me or Rashmika, we gave our best, others did their part, and now the audience is doing theirs. What truly matters is that the film is performing well and is among the biggest blockbusters of the year—we should celebrate that,” added Divya.
Speaking of Chhaava, the film is based on the book by the same name, written by Shivaji Sawant. With Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb, the film is a tribute to Sambhaji’s leadership, intelligence, and bravery as it showcases the powerful king taking over the desire for Swarajya from his late father Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The film released in cinemas on February 14.
