The Tamil Nadu government and Dixon Technologies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up a laptop manufacturing unit at Oragadam near Chennai with an investment of ₹1,000 crore. The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Industries Minister T.R.B. Rajaa on Wednesday.
The new unit to be established in IndoSpace Industrial Park at Oragadam is expected to generate employment for about 5,000 people from areas in and around Kancheepuram district, an official release said. In a social media post, Mr. Rajaa said: “HP laptops, soon to be #MadeInTamilNadu! Another big day for #electronics manufacturing in #TamilNadu!”
The Minister said: “Dixon’s leadership acknowledged what we’ve always believed: Tamil Nadu’s progressive policies, robust infrastructure, highly skilled workforce and above all ease of doing business at a fast pace make it the most attractive destination for manufacturing in India.”
Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, Dixon Technologies executive chairman Sunil Vachani and senior officials were among those present on the occasion in the Secretariat.
