A government bus driver and ten passengers were injured after the vehicle ran into a roadside pit at Vengili village near Ambur town in Tirupattur on Tuesday.
According to police, the accident occurred around 3. 30 a.m. when driver R. Govindasamy, 52, lost control of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus – carrying 30 passengers – on a stretch along the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway. The driver and the passengers who were seated in the front were injured.
Passers-by rescued the injured and alerted the Ambur Taluk police, who rushed to the spot with ambulances. The bus was removed from the spot. Barring the driver, the rest of the injured were treated as out-patients at the Government Taluk Hospital in the town.
The driver was shifted to Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore. A case was registered.
Traffic on the route was affected for around 30 minutes.
An Alternative bus was arranged for the other passengers. A probe is under way, the police said.
