NAGPUR: The blood samples of two friends of Sanket, son of BJP state chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule, showed the one driving his Audi during Sunday night’s crash had 28mg alcohol in 100ml of blood and the other friend 25mg – the permissible limit is 30mg/100ml. The samples were collected more than seven hours later. Shortly after the accident, Mayo Hospital doctors had declared that a preliminary physical examination suggested the duo was under the influence of alcohol.
The FSL report was made available Thursday.Sanket, who was in the car, was spared the blood alcohol level test. His friend Arjun Haore was at the wheel of the AudiQ8, and Ronit Chintamwar was the third occupant.
“After seven hours, the alcohol levels in blood are bound to dip. The accident took place within 30 minutes of liquor intake. The alcohol levels might have turned out to be four times higher had the samples been collected soon after the accident,” a forensic expert said.

After the Sitabuldi police station received the forensic report, the police failed to take a decision on Sanket’s culpability. Only Haore has been made an accused and was arrested and released on bail early on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the police brass said it would seek legal opinion before invoking any charges against Sanket for handing over his AudiQ8 keys to Haore despite him having consumed alcohol.
