The poll panel has sought their response by 5 pm on March 29
The Election Commission of India on Wednesday sent show-cause notices to BJP leader Dilip Ghosh and Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate for “insulting, offensive and derogatory remarks against honour and dignity of women”.
The poll panel has sought their response by 5 pm on March 29.
“… on careful examination, the comment(s) have been found to be ‘undignified and in bad taste’, and to be prima facie violative of provisions of the Model Code of Conduct…” ECI said.
The notice to Ghosh came a day after Trinamool Congress (TMC) filed a complaint against BJP’s former state president and ex-national vice president for his derogatory remark against West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.
Ghosh, BJP’s candidate from Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha seat, had mocked Banerjee’s family background.
In a video that went viral on social media, Ghosh was heard making fun of the Chief Minister’s ‘daughter of the state’ claim by saying, “She should first decide who her father is”.
Meanwhile, Supriya Shrinate came under fire over a derogatory social media post against actress and BJP’s Mandi Lok Sabha candidate Kangana Ranaut. The Congress leader later clarified that the post was made by someone who had access to her social media account.
