NEW DELHI: Enforcement Directorate (ED) sleuths are carrying out searches in two office premises of Sree Gokulam Chit and Finance Co Pvt Ltd in the city since Friday morning.
About 10 sleuths reached the offices in Kodambakkam and Trustpuram in two vehicles and conducted searches.
ED did not officially reveal the reason behind the surprise checks, but it is pertinent to note that ‘Gokulam’ Gopalan, Chairman of the Gokulam Group of Companies, is one of the producers of the Mohanlal-starrer L2 Empuraan, which ran into controversy soon after the release on March 27.
The movie was jointly produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Subaskaran Allirajah and Gokulam Gopalan through Aashirvad Cinemas, Lyca Productions, and Sree Gokulam Movies.
Following objections raised on social media, the producers came forward to voluntarily remove objectionable portions.
L2: Empuraan“, which serves as the sequel to “Lucifer” in a planned trilogy by the Prithviraj-Mohanlal team, has sparked significant discussions due to its criticism of right-wing politics and references to the Gujarat riots.
Following the controversy, Mohanlal issued an apology regarding the ongoing dispute and confirmed that the contentious sections would be eliminated from the film.
