NEW DELHI: A team of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was attacked during a raid at Sandeshkhali in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Friday morning.
The incident place in the village of TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh, where the team was met with hostility by a group of 100-200 villagers.
According to TV reports, the ED team had arrived in the area to carry out raids on properties suspected to be linked to a ration scam.
The villagers allegedly surrounded the team, smashed the screens of the officials’ car, and prevented them from carrying out their operations.
“It was an orchestrated attack,” said the BJP in response to the incident.
West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar said, “There is a complaint & corruption charges against all of them. It is natural that ED will take action. It is quite obvious. The attack on ED in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali shows what the Rohingya are doing to the law & order in the state (sic).”
