NEW DELHI: Reacting strongly to PM Narendra Modi invoking the Emergency at the start of Parliament, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said “even after moral and political defeat (of Modi), the arrogance remains”. He said the country expected the PM to speak on important issues like NEET and other recruitment exams but he avoided taking responsibility for the corruption in his govt, as also on the train accident in West Bengal and over the year-long conflict in Manipur, exit poll stock market scam or the caste census.
Posting a video of the opposition’s protest in Parliament on day one of the 18th Lok Sabha, Kharge tweeted, “PM Modi, you are reminding us of the 50-year-old Emergency, but have forgotten the last 10 years of undeclared emergency, which was ended by the people.People have given their mandate against Modi. Despite this, if he has become the PM, then he should work. People need substance, not slogans.”
LS MP K C Venugopal said, “The INDIA alliance enters the 18th Lok Sabha taking Bapu’s blessings and with a fresh resolve to give voice to the people’s issues, challenges, hopes and aspirations in Parliament, and keep the govt in check every single minute.”
Rahul Gandhi, listing the incidents of the first 15 days of the new govt like train accident, NEET, paper leaks, water crisis, price rise, said, “psychologically on the backfoot, Modi is busy saving his govt … India’s strong opposition will continue its pressure and will not allow the PM to escape without accountability.”
