Amid multiple controversies surrounding JD Vance’s remarks, an ex-adviser to former President Bill Clinton expects that former President Donald Trump will ditch and replace Senator JD Vance as his vice presidential pick with the former UN ambassador, Nikki Haley.
The speculation gained prominence after Veep pick Vance’s remarks on “childless cat ladies” and false claims made about the 2020 elections resurfaced, putting the senator in a tough spot. However, JD Vance has defended his comments, describing them as sarcastic but reaffirming his belief that having children provides a different perspective on societal issues.
Although Trump praised Vance in a Fox News interview on Thursday, calling him “fantastic” and popular with the public, there are still concerns about Vance’s potential problems for Republicans in November. A former White House advisor speculated on CNN about Trump’s considerations.
Paul Begala suggested that Trump might be thinking of replacing JD Vance with his former UN Ambassador, Nikki Haley. The ex-adviser to President Clinton said that the former ambassador is vying for the VP role and mentioned that Democrats have shown it’s possible to change their ticket.
“There’s a nonzero chance the Republicans might replace their vice presidential candidate,” Begala said. “He’s been underwhelming and is the first vice presidential nominee from either party since 1980 to start with low approval ratings,” he added during the panel’s discussion on Haley’s recent interview.
The political consultant criticized the Republican choice, commending Trump’s charisma but calling Vance “not good on the stump” and “dull.” The chief strategist also pointed to Vance’s lack of appeal, commenting on Haley’s interview, “She is actively campaigning to join the ticket. Just wait and see this year,” Begala remarked.
