Diwali 2024 witnessed one of the year’s biggest box-office clashes, as Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Singham Again both hit theaters. The competition between the two high-profile franchises starring popular actors, including Kartik Aaryan in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, created a buzz in Bollywood and divided audiences. Nevertheless, both films managed a strong opening and continue to draw steady numbers at the box office.

Bhushan Kumar Opens Up About the Decision to Release Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 Alongside Singham Again
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 producer Bhushan Kumar shed light on the clash and the challenges both teams faced in attempting to avoid it. According to Kumar, both franchises are highly valuable and hold significant audiences, and the intention from both sides was never to clash on release day. However, contractual constraints with OTT platforms and creative factors made it unavoidable.
Kumar explained, “Franchises have a lot of value. So both franchises held significant value; we knew this, and so did they. It’s not that we both didn’t try. We mutually tried to avoid a clash, but both sides had certain constraints that made it unavoidable.”
Kumar went on to elaborate on the contractual limitations, sharing, “Nowadays, there are some constraints, like pre-commitments with OTT platforms. If you try to change those dates, the OTT platform doesn’t allow it. That was our constraint, and they probably had similar ones.”
Why Diwali Was Critical for Singham Again
Kumar acknowledged that Singham Again, directed by Rohit Shetty, had an additional creative constraint, given that its storyline touches upon Ramayana, aligning well with Diwali celebrations. “They also had a creative limitation since the theme of their film was Ramayana, and they definitely wanted to release it on Diwali,” he added.
Kumar explained that both production teams tried their best to work around these limitations but eventually agreed that releasing together was unavoidable. “They tried, and we tried as well. But due to these constraints, it wasn’t possible,” Kumar shared.
Positive Outcomes Amidst the Competition
Despite the initial concerns over dividing the audience, Kumar expressed satisfaction with the results for both films, highlighting that both Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 are performing well at the box office. “I’m very happy that Singham Again is also doing well, and so is our film,” he stated.
Kumar also acknowledged the minor impact of the divided viewership but noted that the support from fans has been overwhelming. “Now, as for the loss from the clash… in an unavoidable situation… we consciously stepped into this situation because of the pre-commitments we had with OTT platforms. So it’s okay as long as our film is getting so much love. And it has done enough business that the film is now safe.”
Speaking of BB 3, besides Kartik, it stars Triptii Dimri, Vidya Balan and Madhuri Dixit in the lead. Meanwhile, Singham Again’s ensemble star cast features Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Arjun Kapoor, among others.
