Filmmaker AR Murugadoss’ recent film Sikandar couldn’t do well at the box office. The movie was also criticized for the huge age gap between its leading man Salman Khan and the leading lady Rashmika Mandanna. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, veteran trade analyst Taran Adarsh spoke about this aspect.

He said that although Salman defended the age gap before the film’s release, it didn’t look good on screen. “When you see it on the screen, the pair doesn’t look good,” said Adarsh. “I didn’t like it. I have always liked Salman Khan’s films and I always say that openly. But I didn’t like the pair. I didn’t like Salman (in the film). I didn’t like his pairing with Rashmika. It didn’t work at all.”
During the interview, Taran Adarsh was asked by Rohit Khilnani that as Amitabh Bachchan took onto character roles at the age of 57, does he think that the three Khans should also do that considering their films Dunki, Laal Singh Chaddha and Sikandar didn’t work.
Adarsh answered, “I won’t say Dunki was a flop. But the kind of expectations there were because of Rajkumar Hirani and Shah Rukh Khan (coming together), it didn’t live up to the expectations. It also clashed with Salaar, which affected the business of both the films. Yes, Laal Singh Chaddha and Sikandar didn’t do well.”
He added, “It was his (Bachchan’s) decision to switch at the age of 57 to strong character roles. And he has been doing this till today beautifully. Now, whether Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir need to do this, depends on them. As I said, who are we to give opinions? They have to decide ultimately. They know the ground realities.”
