Actor Shivendraa Om Saainiyol has joined Pushpa Impossible in the intriguing role of Shekhar, paired opposite Karuna Pandey’s character, Basanti—Pushpa’s doppelganger. In an interview with Times of India TV, Shivendraa shares what drew him to the role, his excitement about the character’s unique qualities, and the thrill of working alongside the talented Karuna Pandey.
His role in Pushpa Impossible
The name of my character in Pushpa Impossible is Shekhar and he is a resident of Chunniganj, Kanpur. He is an official guide of Kanpur. He is somewhat educated and well-conversed with the tourists. He loves Basanti and has always loved her. But for some reason, when Basanti had to go to jail due to a mistake, he waited for some time and then got married. Basanti runs a tea shop and Shekhar has not been able to forget her past and he is still equally attached to Basanti, so he often goes to her shop to drink tea.
Special prep to prepare for this role
For this character, first of all I had to learn Kanpuri language. Because he is from Kanpur. So I had to adopt that language. Well, till today we still use a lot of language in the films. But when you get a chance to play a character on screen, then you have to do a little preparation for it.
Paired opposite Karuna Pandey’s character Basanti, working with her
Karuna ji, who plays the character Basanti, has a bond with Shekhar because it is old and there is love between them. But now because they have not been able to be together, we are indifferent. Basanti is a very loud character and Shekhar is very subtle at the same time. The wonderful twist in the story later on is that when things change and it is going opposite Basanti, Shekhar helps her and moves ahead. And then later when it is realised there is a double role, Shekhar tries to adjust with Basanti aka Pushpa as the roles get switched. Well, there were some scenes of Shekhar and Basanti, which were full of love. There are some scenes, which are very sad.
What twist is your role going to bring into the show?
My role is bringing a surprise, which we have seen before in Sita Aur Geeta, which was Hema Maliniji’s film and apart from that there was a film of Sridevi ji. The twists that come in the story with double roles are a lot of fun to watch. So this story of Shekhar is going to be liked very much.
What made you say yes to the show?
First of all, I had watched a few clips of the show before and had heard about the show that it is very good, realistic, not like what we often see… the fights like in saas bahu serials. They are motivational and apart from that, I always wanted to work with JD Majethia sir. Their shows are very interesting, very simple. So I always wanted to work with his production house as an artist and this was the best decision.
