Shreyas Talpade is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming political drama, Emergency. Directed by Kangana Ranaut, the film will see Talpade portraying the role of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Talpade opened up about a surprising aspect of his life: his aversion to Bollywood parties.

The actor explained his stance, stating, “Udhar jake kya baatein karenge? Kabhi Kabhi acha hota hai ki, fake baatein karne se acha hai baatein na karo. I love spending time at home with my family. It is not like I will get work after attending a party. Aapko shayad parties mein bakwaas karne bulayenge shayad (Going to parties and engaging in small talk doesn’t really appeal to me. I prefer spending quality time at home with my family. It’s not as if attending parties would magically land me more work).”
Kangana Ranaut, who was also present during the interview, playfully disagreed with Talpade’s assessment. She argued that while parties might not directly lead to desired roles, they could still offer valuable networking opportunities. “There is nothing like that. You won’t get the work you want, but you will get faltu work,” she said. However, Talpade remained firm in his belief that his focus should primarily be on his work and ensuring that his actions don’t negatively impact the work of others.
Emergency focuses on the tumultuous period of the Emergency from 1975 to 1977, a 21-month phase during which civil liberties were suspended, and political opponents were imprisoned. This era, often regarded as a dark chapter in Indian history, was marked by widespread censorship, forced sterilizations, and authoritarian rule under Gandhi’s government.
The ensemble cast includes actors like Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, and the late Satish Kaushik, each bringing to life key figures from the period. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on September 6.
