Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared his thoughts on the belief within the film industry that films released during festivals or holidays are more likely to achieve box-office success. He reflected on the prevalent mindset in the industry that films need a festive window to gain traction.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Adarsh highlighted four blockbuster films that proved the point which were released on non-holidays. He said, “All the holiday and festival dates for next year are already blocked. Let me mention a few films: Baahubali and Baahubali 2 were blockbuster hits. Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju was a blockbuster. Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal was also a blockbuster, and now Pushpa 2 has joined the list. These four films are significant because they were released on non-holidays—there were no festivals, no public holidays, and no special celebrations. Yet, when audiences came to watch these films, it became a celebration.”
Adarsh further proved his point saying that this belief undermines the potential of well-crafted films, which, if backed by solid content and marketing, can achieve immense success regardless of the release period. “The belief that films only work during festivals or holidays is being challenged. But these 4 films are very big example, and they have done wonders at the box office. So, have conviction in your film. The kind of confidence has to be there in your film. The films need to be strong enough to convince and impress the viewers completely so that they come for a repeat view,” he stated.
Adarsh emphasized that such films are proof that content is king and that an engaging story and strong performances are the real drivers of success.
