The super success of Amar Kaushik’s Stree 2 owes a lot to its funny lines, which are written by Niren Bhatt. The film is also known for its meta references of the film’s cast. One such moment is seen in the film where Rajkummar Rao utters the lines of his own song ‘Thukra Ke Mera Pyaar Mera Inteqam Dekhegi’ from his film Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana (2017).

In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, writer Niren Bhatt said that that particular line was improvised on the set. “That one was improvised by Raj himself,” he said. “He improvises and lot and so does Abhishek Banerjee. He was there in Bala, Bhediya and Stree also. They are great actors. They come up with some really crazy lines. What is already crazy on paper, they improvise and make it something else only. Even Aparshakti (Khurana) and Pankaj (Tripathi) ji; these people bring their own madness.”
Bhatt said that he mostly makes it a point to attend the shoot of the projects he writes. “Especially in films,” he said. “I have such a tuning with Amar. We do the next day’s planning the night before. I think some of the best lines are written the day before. By the time it goes on set, the actors will add something to it. Then we discuss on it.”
Bhatt has also written Bhediya and Munjya, the two other movies from Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy universe along with Stree 2. “I personally enjoy comedy,” he said. “I have written comedy all my life. I have written a lot of episodes of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma. But I have also been a very big fan of the horror genre. Stephen King is my most favourite author. I have read a lot of his novels. I have also read a lot of other horror stories from other world-renowned authors. I started my career with a horror show with Eagle Films.”
Bhatt has written diverse set of projects like Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, Asur, Bala, Bey Yaar, Wrong Side Raju, etc. “I like writing and exploring varied genres and stories,” he said. “If you keep doing the only thing that you know, it tends to become boring. That’s why it’s important to keep re-inventing yourself.”
Also starring Shraddha Kapoor, Stree 2 is produced under the banners of Maddock Films and Jio Studios. The film is now inching towards the Rs. 300 crores mark in its extended first weekend.
