AMBALA: Ahead of their planned Delhi foot march in jathas (batches), farmers under the banner of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) (SKM NP) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) attended a meeting convened by Ambala Superintendent of Police (SP) on Monday and apprised the police of their plan.
At the request for a meeting, Ambala SP Surinder Singh Bhoria called SKM NP and KMM leaders to discuss and coordinate for the Delhi march to ensure the law and order situation is not disturbed in the district.
The farmers clarified to the police that they will not hold any opposition or protest during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Haryana and Chandigarh.
After attending the meeting, farmer leader Sarvan Singh Pandher said, “We have shared our detailed plan for the Delhi march with Ambala SP and cleared all their doubts and apprehensions. Our program will not create any law and order situation, and we will not cause any traffic jams or road blockades. We are not in favor of blocking the passage. We will peacefully march to Delhi and will not participate in any protest to oppose any event of a minister or leader on our way. Our program is to march towards Delhi only.”
“The SP said that they would make efforts to get permission for our program from the Haryana and Delhi governments. Ambala SP has assured us that he would put forward our plan before the government in their meeting,” said Pandher.
“We believe that whatever events took place until today were due to misunderstandings with the Haryana and Delhi administrations. We expect that with such a meeting, trust will be built between the farmers and the government, which is good,” said Pandher, adding that they expect an understanding with the government.
Pandher said their forums have planned to cover 15 kilometers in jathas per day.
“SKM NP and KMM representatives were called in view of their call for the Delhi march. We have ascertained details about their plan, including the gathering size, route plan, etc. Such meetings will continue in the future as well. The decision has not yet been taken on whether they will be allowed to proceed or not. If we are asked about the farmers’ plan, the details will be shared with the concerned authority,” said SP Ambala Surinder Singh Bhoria.
