Fast-track court also says unseal ASI report on Gyanvapi study

VARANASI: A Varanasi fast-track court of civil judge (senior division) Prashant Kumar Singh on Tuesday ordered the unsealing of Archaeological Survey of India’s Gyanvapi survey report, and directed ASI to hand over its copies to the parties in the original suit, titled ‘Swayambhu Lord Vishweshwar and others vs Anjuman Intezamia Masajid Committee and others.’
The ASI report submitted to the district court was opened on Jan 25, making its content public, but the one submitted to the fast-track court is still waiting to be unsealed.

Advocate Vijay Shankar Rastogi, representing the plaintiff (Lord Vishweshwar), told TOI that in compliance with an Allahabad HC order dated Dec 19, 2023, by which ASI was instructed to conduct a comprehensive survey of the entire Gyanvapi mosque , the fast track court had on Jan 4 directed ASI to submit its survey report by Jan 19. ASI submitted the report in sealed envelopes on Jan 24.
Rastogi said that that after reviewing the report, he intended to “submit an application detailing the areas on the Gyanvapi premises where further ASI survey is deemed necessary”. Meanwhile, the court has scheduled the next hearing for Feb 5.
