In a tragic incident on Monday, a man and a woman lost their lives in a shooting at a north Toronto office space, which was located near a daycare centre and a school. The male suspect, believed to be the attacker, also died during the incident. As a result of the shooting, both the daycare facility and the Catholic all-boys elementary school were placed under lockdown, causing parents to rush to the area to retrieve their children.
According to Detective sgt Al Bartlett, the deceased man and woman were colleagues in a financial transaction business.“It’s our belief at this point that the altercation that took place is in relation to that business,” Bartlett said. He further added, “The person that we believe to be responsible is among the deceased.”
The identities of the victims and the shooter were not disclosed by Bartlett, as the authorities needed to inform their families first. When asked about the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death, whether it was a suicide or due to other causes, Bartlett refrained from commenting, stating that it was still under investigation.
As parents were reunited with their children just outside the police tape at the daycare centre, they embraced them tightly, feeling relieved. Bartlett confirmed that no child was harmed during the incident and clarified that there was no internal access between the daycare centre and the business within the building.
