NEW DELHI: A 29-year-old newly married man from Maharashtra’s Thane district sustained injuries after his father-in-law allegedly threw acid at him following a disagreement over his honeymoon destination.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, has left the victim hospitalized while the accused remains at large, police officials said.
The victim, identified as Ibad Atik Falke, is undergoing treatment for injuries to his face and body. According to Senior Inspector SR Gaud of Bazarpeth Police Station, the accused, 65-year-old Jaki Gulam Murtaza Khotal, is absconding.
The altercation reportedly stemmed from differing opinions about the couple’s honeymoon destination. Falke, who recently married Khotal’s daughter, had expressed a desire to visit Kashmir, while Khotal insisted that the couple travel to a religious destination abroad. This disagreement escalated into a major conflict.
According to the FIR, Falke returned home on Wednesday night and parked his vehicle near a roadside. Khotal, who was allegedly lying in wait in his car, approached Falke and threw acid on him. The attack caused serious injuries to Falke’s face and body.
“Khotal wanted to end his daughter’s marriage with Falke,” Inspector Gaud said, adding that police are conducting a manhunt to apprehend the accused.
Khotal has been booked under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 124-1 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid) and Section 351-3 (criminal intimidation), among others.
