WASHINGTON: The Federal Reserve is expected to hold interest rates steady on Wednesday as it awaits further inflation and jobs data and more clarity on the economic impact of President Donald Trump‘s policies before deciding whether to cut borrowing costs again.
Preliminary data released on Wednesday showed US monthly goods trade deficit jumped nearly 18% in Dec to $122.1 billion, a record high, with a surge in imports of industrial supplies suggesting companies may be trying to front-run expected new import taxes. Investors and many economists expect the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates later this year. REUTERS
