Four Reds get life term for killing 15 cops in 14 ambush | India News

RAIPUR: A National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Chhattisgarh has handed down life imprisonment to four Maoists for their involvement in an ambush in 2014 in which 15 security personnel and a civilian were killed.
Special Judge (NIA Act) Jagdalpur D R Dewangan convicted Mahadev Nag, Kawasi Joga, Mani Ram Mahadev and Dayaram Baghel under IPC sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempted murder), and 120B (criminal conspiracy), Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Explosives Act, and the Arms Act on Monday, said NIA special public prosecutor Dinesh Panigrahi.
On March 11, 2014, a road opening party of CRPF and state police was ambushed near Tahakwada village in Sukma, a Maoist hotbed around 50km from Dantewada and 350km south of Raipur. Maoists fired at the security forces from both sides, inflicting heavy casualties. Before the attack, the insurgents had set trucks on fire to block roads and stop reinforcements from reaching the trapped troops.
Eleven CRPF personnel, four policemen were killed in the hour-long gunfight.
