Frame judicial conduct norms: Bar body after judge outburst

CHENNAI: Taking exception to the outburst of Justice R Subramanian of Madras HC judge at senior advocate P Wilson while hearing an appeal, All-India Bar Association (AIBA) has written to CJI D Y Chandrachud to frame guidelines for judicial conduct and set up a mechanism to redress complaints of unprofessional conduct by members of judiciary.
AIBA also requested CJI to constitute a monitoring committee headed by a Supreme Court judge to review virtual court proceedings..
In a letter to CJI, AIBA chairman and senior advocate Adish C Aggarwala said Justice Subramanian shouted at Wilson – who is also a Rajya Sabha MP of DMK – and used inappropriate language . “Advocates must feel free to carry out their professional responsibilities without the fear of being unjustly accused of undermining the court’s authority. ,” Aggarwala stated.
Pointing out a complaint regarding this matter to the HC registry remained unanswered to this day, the association said: “Silence from authorities raised questions about enforcement of rules .” TNN
