AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday announced his pre-poll promise of free healthcare for Delhi residents above 60 years of age. The party chief, who will contest from the New Delhi constituency, said that he is privileged to fulfill his responsibilities as “Dilli ka beta”.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has released the names of its candidates for all 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly, fielding Kejriwal from New Delhi besides repeating Chief Minister Atishi from Kalkaji.
The dates for the much-anticipated Delhi polls may be out soon as the Election Commission of India (ECI) has called for a preparatory meeting this week. Reports stated that the dates are likely to be released after this meeting.
Earlier, Kejriwal had announced the roll out of the Delhi government’s Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana, and promised to raise the monthly aid from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,100 if his party returns to power.
In the 2020 elections, AAP secured 62 of the 70 seats in Delhi, solidifying its dominance in the capital’s politics. The upcoming polls are expected to be a litmus test for the party’s governance model and its appeal to the electorate.
The AAP supremo has ramped up his outreach, especially to women, ahead of the February 2025 elections.
During a padyatra in the Badarpur constituency on Monday, Kejriwal cited a survey that he claimed shows 60 per cent of women in Delhi are set to vote for AAP. He urged the remaining 40 per cent to join the fold.
“There must be some shortcoming in my penance that 40 per cent of women are not voting for me. This time, 100 per cent of women must vote for the Aam Aadmi Party,” Kejriwal said.
