Every year brings its share of remarkable films, and 2024 was no exception. Among the films that captivated audiences, each had at least one scene that was either awe-inspiring or deeply impactful. To celebrate such moments, the firm 5th Dimension has compiled a list of the Top 10 scenes of 2024.

What sets this list apart from other year-end compilations is the innovative methodology employed to select these scenes. Using advanced Neuro-Testing technology, the team analyzed audience reactions in real-time to identify the most emotionally resonant moments. Aditya Shastri from 5th Dimension elaborated on the process, explaining their use of a medical-grade device called EEG (Electroencephalogram), which resembles a headband. This device measures brain waves and is worn by audience members while they watch films in theaters. The EEG transmits brainwave data via Bluetooth to a receiver (a laptop), which then relays the information to a server for analysis.
The technology evaluates three key parameters:
1. Attention: Did the viewer remain focused during the scene?
2. Engagement: Was the viewer following and comprehending the scene?
3. Activation: Did the scene excite the viewer, keeping them fully engrossed?
These metrics are quantified through established brainwave analysis techniques, producing numerical scores. The higher the score, the more impactful the scene, which forms the basis for the Top 10 list.
To ensure fairness and credibility, the firm set strict criteria for the films and audience selection. Only movies screened in 50 or more theaters with a minimum of 21 shows per week were considered. Audience members were exclusively those who purchased their tickets, eliminating bias from complimentary passes. Testing was conducted in Mumbai, Jaipur, Lucknow, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata. In cases where Kolkata was unavailable, Patna served as a substitute.
Additional conditions included:
– Scenes had to be at least 45 seconds long to qualify.
– A sample size of 78–129 viewers per film, with an average of 100 viewers, was tested.
– Tests were conducted during two screenings per film – one in the afternoon and another in the late evening – to capture diverse audience reactions.
The EEG captured data across multiple brainwave frequencies, including Alpha, Beta, Theta, Delta, and Gamma waves, offering a comprehensive understanding of audience responses.
This innovative approach by 5th Dimension not only highlights the most compelling cinematic moments of the year but also sets a benchmark for using neuroscience in audience research.
