Filmmaker Anil Sharma, who is best known for directing ‘Gadar’ and ‘Gadar 2‘, said he thought of ‘Gadar’ as a ‘Ramayana’ story. Additionally, he compared the handpump scenario to the legend of Lord Hanuman lifting a whole mountain after failing to recognize the medicinal herb Sanjeevani, crucial for reviving a gravely wounded Lakshman.
During a conversation with DNA India, Anil shared, “Tara Singh may not be Hanuman ji but the emotion is the same. So, he can uproot a handpump. Many were not convinced about it till the release of the film. Those who watch English films don’t understand how people in our small towns think. They only worry about the public that lives in Bandra, Versova , and South Delhi.”
Anil Sharma will be directing his next film ‘Vanvaas’. The film will star director’s son Utkarsh and Nana Patekar. It will be released on December 20. After his father passed away, Anil claimed to have felt a great void in his life and considered making a movie about the value of parents. According to the director, this story discusses how family elders are banished by their loved ones for a variety of causes.
Anil, who previously directed the 2007 family drama film ‘Apne’, said, “This is a simple film which we treated with a lot of sensitivity. This is a family film which can be watched together. With a lot of entertainment and humour, I want to tell a story that will shake the conscience of the people.”
The filmmaker shared that he is confident that ‘Vanvaas’ will be loved by audiences the way viewers showered love on ‘Gadar 2’. “When I announced the film , people were like Anil Sharma is over, Sunny is over and that we were ruining a classic. Funny enough, many people called it Gutter: Ek Prem Katha in 2001 and now it has become a classic,” he shared.
