The Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) has set apart ₹9 crore to develop open spaces in land owned by various local bodies in Ernakulam.
Under this, each shortlisted local body will be given ₹1 crore. Chairpersons, secretaries, and other key officials of the respective local bodies attended a preparatory meeting held in this regard. Aluva, Angamaly, Thrikkakara, Kalamassery, Thripunithura, Maradu, Eloor, North Paravur and Perumbavoor muncipalities have been selected for the first phase of the project, according to a GCDA release.
Such well-developed open spaces would help families and others to unwind, especially during evenings, and would also come in handy to host public meetings. “The aim is to ready open spaces and parks much like Subhash Park in the city and like Changampuzha Park in Edappally, which enjoy good footfalls. Such open public places will encourage people to mingle,” it said.
