The big-budget Hollywood action film, Gladiator II, releases in India today, Friday, November 15, and is all set to spring a surprise at the box office. As per the data collected by Bollywood Hungama, the film has sold nearly 12,000 tickets as of 9:00 pm on Thursday, November 14, across the three national multiplex chains, that is, PVR, Inox and Cinepolis.

As a result, Gladiator II is expected to have an opening of more than Rs. 3 crores. There’s a Guru Nanak Jayanti holiday in many parts and that would definitely aid the film. Last month, Venom: The Last Dance sold nearly 14,000 tickets for its release day and ended up with a first-day collection of Rs. 4.20 crores. There’s an outside chance that Gladiator II can go past this number but it all depends on spot booking.
The reviews have started pouring in from the Mumbai media and are very positive. Even the early reviews abroad were encouraging and increased the excitement for the film.
There was some scepticism about Gladiator II’s opening as the first part, Gladiator (2000), was released nearly 24 years ago. Hence, many believed that a major chunk of the moviegoing audience might not have seen it and this might affect the sales of the second part. But the strong advance sales put all doubts to rest.
Interestingly, Kanguva’s Hindi version has also taken an opening of Rs. 3 crores plus and it remains to be seen if Gladiator II can cross the day one figure of the Pan-India film. The target for Gladiator II will also be to have a weekend in the range of Rs. 13-15 crores. It will have a clear run until the release of Pushpa 2 and hence, the sky is the limit for its lifetime collections.
This is truly a Gadar 2 (2023) moment for Gladiator II. Just like the Sunny Deol-starrer, many wondered if its sequel is required at all, that too, after more than two decades. But Gadar 2 stormed the box office and now Gladiator II is all set to follow suit across the world, including its home market in North America where it opens on November 22. As per estimates, it is expected to earn around $80 million in its opening weekend in the US/Canada.
