HYDERABAD: Union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia launched the GMR School of Aviation here on Thursday during the inaugural ceremony of Wings India 2024.
The institute, being touted as the first of its kind in the country and region, has been set up by GMR Aero Technic, the MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) division of GMR Air Cargo and Aerospace Engineering Ltd (GACAEL), in technical collaboration with French aerospace giant Airbus.
The aviation school, which is located at the GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, will offer a fully integrated 4-year AME program along with type training.
The school is the first in India to offer a combined B1.1 and B2 aircraft maintenance engineering licensing program, aircraft specific type training courses and ancillary courses like aircraft structures, aircraft composite courses.
Airbus will be providing the requisite courseware in the form of technical handbooks, examination database and access to the Airbus Competence Training (ACT) for academy media package. Airbus will also qualify GMR instructors along with assessment of the training centre.
The school has been certified by DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) and EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency).
GMR Aero Technic president & accountable manager Ashok Gopinath said the first-of-its-kind school in this region will be a global benchmark and centre of excellence in the aviation education space.
“For the MRO industry that is expected to grow to over US$ 2.4 billion by 2028, this school will be a game changer. It will equip students aspiring for a successful career with expertise and make them future ready for the burgeoning aviation industry globally,” Gopinath said.
Students who have cleared their 10+2 examination with physics, chemistry and mathematics would be eligible for these courses. Students enrolling for the EASA programme will also get the opportunity to complete two years of academic training on the campus and two years on-job training at GMR Aero Technic.
The day also saw GMR Aero Academy (GMRAA), an education, training, skilling and aviation consultancy arm of GMR Airports Infrastructure Ltd, ink a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Andhra Loyola College at the event.
The partnership will introduce aviation-specialised embedded programmes designed to upskill students with Bachelor’s Degrees, GMR Group said.
