BHOPAL: A group of youths in an SUV allegedly waylaid and assaulted three men in a car and vandalised the vehicle in full public view near Halalpura Bus Stand in the Koh-e-Fiza area late Wednesday night.
The goons arrived at the spot in an SUV sporting flag of a political party and hooters, eyewitnesses said. The incident that was captured on video and later went viral on social media.
Koh-e-Fiza police said that a case has been registered against the unknown miscreants and are searching for them based on their SUV registration number.
Koh-e-Fiza SHO Vijendra Marskole said that the complainant, Gaurav Raikwar, 26, a resident of Bag Sewania, is a driver by profession. He stated that he was returning home with his friends Deepak and Sameer after dining at a roadside eatery in the Khajuri area. Around 11:30pm, as they reached Halalpura Bus Stand, a black SUV intercepted their car.
SHO Marskole said that the SUV occupants forcibly pulled the three men out of their car, assaulted them, and smashed the car’s windscreen and window panels with a stick retrieved from their vehicle. Eyewitnesses passing by recorded the incident on their smartphones, and the footage went viral on Thursday.
SHO Marskole said that Koh-e-Fiza police registered a case under various sections, including obstruction, assault, and vandalism, against unknown individuals. The dispute is believed to have originated earlier in the Khajuri area during an overtaking incident between the two vehicles. Following the argument, the goons in the SUV pursued the car and stopped it at Halalpura Bus Stand, where the assault occurred. They also lodged a complaint at Khajuri police station against the car driver.
