Higher education in Tamil Nadu should not suffer due to the ongoing tussle between the Tamil Nadu government and Governor R.N. Ravi, Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss has said.

Addressing mediapersons at Thailapuram near Villupuram on Thursday (February 6, 2025), Mr. Ramadoss said the posts of Vice Chancellors in nearly seven State universities remained vacant. The certificates of students will not be valid unless they bear the signature of the Governor, who is also the Chancellor of the institutions, he said.

This situation should not persist, and the Tamil Nadu government should initiate steps to get a favourable verdict on its petition on the appointment of V-Cs in State universities.

Mr. Ramadoss further said the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) had not completed the recruitment process for graduate and secondary-grade teachers. To fill 3,192 graduate teachers’ posts, the TRB conducted the exam on February 4, 2024, and announced the results on May 18, 2024. Despite completing the certificate verification and publishing the final list of candidates, the appointment orders have not been issued so far, he said.

Expressing shock over the sexual assault of a girl student in Krishnagiri district, the PMK founder said the State government should own moral responsibility for the incident. The government should take stringent action against the arrested teachers, he said.
