Is there a success in the making right at the onset of 2024? Well, if the start that the Hindi version of HanuMan has taken is any indication, then it could well turn out to be the case. No, it hasn’t set the screens on fire. It hasn’t gone ahead and taken that Rs. 10 crores+ opening. It doesn’t have industry bigwigs rooting for it (as yet at least). It doesn’t have an elaborate marketing campaign painting the town red. And yet, there is solid probability that this one would emerge as a real big hit.
For a film which is a dubbed affair and doesn’t have a hugely popular name from south as the leading man, HanuMan has taken a start of Rs. 2.15 crores and that’s pretty positive in fact. The film saw a restricted release for itself but still managed some consistent footfalls right through the day with the pick-up happening in the evening shows. Today, the word of mouth has already started spreading, which means the collections could end up being in Rs. 3.50-4 crores range, which would be really good. If similar momentum continues well into Sunday as well, then the film could go anywhere.
Filmmaker Prasanth Verna has made HanuMan at a very less budget, which means it could well end up recovering its costs in one week flat. Post that, profits will start coming in and it would be interesting to see if this one turns out to be the Kantara of 2024.
