It’ll be difficult for many to believe but one of the most dashing and fitting stars of the world, Hrithik Roshan, turns 50 today. The actor has amassed a huge following not just for his looks and body but also for his supreme acting talent and tremendous work ethic. The older generation adores him but thanks to his youthful appeal, even those under 25 are charmed by him. Talking about his acting career, he debuted 24 years ago and to date, he has worked in 26 films. This seems like a low number but the superstar has made it clear that he believes in quality over quantity. No wonder he has delivered quite several hits and even blockbusters since 2000. In this Bollywood Hungama special feature, we’ll take a look at this aspect.
Happy 50th Birthday Hrithik Roshan: The total collection of his films is a HUGE Rs. 1908.20 crores; has been a part of 5 biggest hits of the year; Fighter is expected to be his first Rs. 400 crores plus grosser
Hrithik Roshan, as we all know, debuted with Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai (2000). The manner in which the actor created a rage among the aam junta even before release was unprecedented. It collected Rs. 44.28 crores and was the biggest blockbuster of the year. In today’s times, these collections amount to nearly Rs. 295 crores.
For the next few years, Hrithik gave flops and average grossers, with Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) being the only super-hit. He got back into the big league with Koi Mil Gaya (2003), a rare sci-fi entertainer of Bollywood. It went on to collect Rs. 47.20 crores and was that year’s biggest hit. Going forward, Koi Mil Gaya became a part of a successful franchise. The next installment, Krrish (2006), was a blockbuster. The same year, Hrithik was seen in two films, both of which were super-successes. Dhoom 2 broke all records as it collected Rs. 81.01 crores and the actor, with his performance, redefined the definition of cool.
After a slight lull, Hrithik Roshan bounced back with Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011), Agneepath (2012) and Krrish 3 (2013). Bang Bang (2014) and Kaabil (2016) were semi-hits while Super 30 (2019) was a hit. War (2019), meanwhile, was a true blockbuster and his entry scene in the film is legendary.
Hrithik Roshan’s last film was Vikram Vedha (2022). Despite having unanimous acclaim, it was an average grosser, collecting just Rs. 78.66 crores. But the film remained in the news due to his casting. In fact, some of his flops opened well as he was a part of it, be it Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon (2003) or Kites (2010). These films would have worked had the content clicked. Lakshya (2004), meanwhile, was a flop but is remembered with respect. Jodhaa Akbar (2008) is given an Average verdict due to its high costs. However, it collected Rs. 56.04 crores, a huge amount for that time.
In short, Hrithik Roshan’s box office track record has been exemplary. The total collections of all his 26 films stand at a huge Rs. 1908.20 crores. This includes 5 blockbusters, 2 super-hits, 2 semi-hits and 3 hits. He also has the feat of being a part of the 5 biggest hits of the year – Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Koi Mil Gaya, Dhoom 2 and War.
In comparison, the total of Ranveer Singh’s 17 films is Rs. 1625.01 crores. Ranbir Kapoor has worked in 21 films and the total lifetime collections amount to Rs. 2366.69 crores. His last film Animal was an all-time blockbuster, collecting Rs. 550.43 crores and that helped him cross the Rs. 2000 crores mark. Also, both these actors entered the industry a little late, when the films had started crossing the Rs. 100 crores clubs and beyond frequently.
Hrithik Roshan’s film collections will also cross the Rs. 2000 crore mark in a matter of few weeks. His next film, Fighter, will be released on January 25 and has generated tremendous hype. This is the first time he’s paired with Deepika Padukone and the chemistry is sizzling. Also, it marks Hrithik’s third collaboration with Siddharth Anand, who’s considered a hitmaker. As a result, Fighter is all set for a great opening and if all goes well, this could be the superstar’s first Rs. 400 crores plus flick. In short, it’ll be a ‘flying’ start to his 50th year!
