Former Haryana Chief Minister Bansi Lal’s granddaughter Shruti Choudhry has emerged victorious from the Tosham assembly seat, defeating her cousin and the late political veteran’s grandson Anirudh Chaudhary by a margin of 14,257 votes.

Shruti Choudhry’s win from Tosham has cemented the fact that her mother, Kiran Chaudhary’s dominance continues in the key Bansi Lal stronghold even after she switched from the Congress to the BJP, along with her daughter, earlier this year.

Shruti Choudhry has defeated cousin and political debutant, Anirudh Chaudhary fielded by the Congress from the key seat. Chaudhary has earlier served as the manager of Team India.

It has been reported that former star cricketer Virender Sehwag had campaigned for Chaudhary ahead of the Haryana polls. Sehwag gave an impressive speech and tried to woo voters speaking in his Haryanvi dialect during the campaign. However, Anirudh Chaudhary’s defeat from Tosham has pointed out that Sehwag’s brief politcal batting has gone in vain.

The political contest in Tosham featured a new generation from Bansi Lal’s family, with each contestant claiming to be the true heir to the veteran politician’s legacy.

Anirudh Chaudhary had contested against his uncle, Surender Singh’s daughter Shruti Choudhry. Earlier, Kiran Choudhry had been contesting elections from Tosham and had won four times. However, ahead of the assembly elections this year, Kiran Choudhry parted with the Congress, joined the BJP and secured a ticket for her daughter, who has now won.

Following her victory, Shruti Choudhry paid tribute to her grandfather, Chaudhary Bansi Lal, and her father, Surender Singh. She expressed that this victory belongs to those associated with them, as well as to the voters and workers of the BJP.

“This is the biggest victory for the countless workers who toiled day and night. The weather was harsh. BJP’s policies reached every home and village. This is a very pleasant moment, as the lotus blooms throughout the state, and history is being created under the leadership of Nayab Singh Saini,” Choudhry said.
