The DC, in her order, stated the stretch between Tanikod and S.K. Border (about 18 km) witnessed repeated incidents of landslips in the last few days. The pillars of four minor bridges on the stretch are in a dilapidated state. Heavy vehicles may get stuck in the stretch during rains. Besides that, the stretch is quite narrow and includes deep curves, posing a challenge to motorists.
Considering the opinion of the Executive Engineer of National Highways (Shivamogga division) and the Superintendent of Police of Chikkamagaluru, the DC issued the order to stop the movement of heavy vehicles on the stretch. The district administration has suggested alternate routes.
Alternate routes
The heavy vehicles heading towards S.K. Border from Chikkamagaluru can take Balehonnur – Magundi – Kalasa – Kuduremukh – S.K. Border route.
The vehicles starting at N.R. Pura can head towards Balehonnur and go via Magundi, Kalasa, Kuduremukh and S.K. Border.
Those starting at Koppa are advised to reach Balehonnur via Jayapura and take Magundi – Kalasa – Kuduremukh route.
