SHIMLA: BJP’s Himachal Pradesh Unit has lodged a complaint against Congress and its leaders including Supriya Shrinate and H S Ahir for their alleged derogatory remarks made on social media platforms against Bollywood actor and BJP candidate from Mandi parliamentary seat- Kangana Ranaut.
BJP’s state office secretary Pramod Thakur in his complaint made to the Election Commission of India, on Tuesday has stated about the repeated instances of serious violations of provisions of Indian Penal Code, 1860; Representation of People Act, 1951; and Model Code of Conduct by leaders of Congress party.
He said that chairperson, Social Media and Digital Platforms and Member, Congress Working Committee of the Congress, Supriya Shrinate, and H S Ahir, State Joint Coordinator, Kisan Congress, have made derogatory remarks against Kangana Ranaut on social media platform X (Formerly Twitter) on March 25th from their respective social media handles.
Complaint said that Supriya Shrinate has also posted derogatory remarks on her Instagram account as well which have gone viral. It said that aforesaid individuals have misused the social media platform in order to try to demean the candidate setup by the BJP from 2-Mandi Parliamentary Constituency in Himachal Pradesh for the Lok Sabha Elections scheduled to be held on June 1st.
“Not only are these remarks derogatory and sexually oriented, which undermine the dignity of a woman; but the same are also violative of the mandatory guidelines of the Model Code of Conduct,’ said the complaint, adding that the aforesaid individuals have used vile and vulgar language on social media platform against Kangana Ranaut, which is also a clear infringement of her Right to Dignity and Decency as envisaged in Chapter III of the Constitution of India.
It said that the remarks of the aforesaid individuals even attract offences under Section(s) 171-C, 171-G, 499, 500, 503, 504, 505, 506 & 509 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 read with the Information Technology Act, 2000. The remarks of the aforesaid individuals fall within the definition of “corrupt practice” as defined under Section 123(4) of the Representation of People Act, 1951, it added.
Pramod Thakur through his complaint has requested the Election Commission to take into account that such irresponsible behaviour of leaders of the Congress follows a dangerous pattern. He said that they are habitual offenders and have a history of violating the provisions of law and the Model Code of Conduct; and this is not the first time that the leaders of Congress party have made such scandalous and derogatory remarks.
He said that Supriya Shrinate and H S Ahir, being senior leaders of the Congress, are well aware of their responsibilities to ensure not to make indecent and derogatory remarks/posts on social media platforms, that too against a woman candidate. He said that by posting such filthy remarks, they have intended to assassinate the character of Kangana Ranaut, which also amounts to personal attack and is impermissible under law.
He said that the highly objectionable and indecent statements in public domain clearly shows that the Congress party has no respect towards the law of the land. Hence, the Commission is requested to initiate the appropriate legal action against Supriya Shrinate and H S Ahir for using objectionable, scandalous and offensive language, in the interest of justice and fair play, he added.
