PUNE: A 2023 batch probationary IAS officer, Pooja Khedkar, was transferred from Pune collector’s office to Washim Monday, soon after videos of her private car – Audi A4 – with red and blue beacon light and ‘Maharashtra Govt‘ insignia, went viral on social media, reports Nisha Nambiar. Official sources said she was shifted based on the collector’s report that said Khedkar “sought special privileges, which were not allowed to an IAS probationary officer”.
Sources told TOI that Pune collector Suhas Diwase’s report to state chief secretary Sujata Saunik on June 24 regarding Khedkar’s conduct also mentioned that she seized the ante chamber of an additional collector.
Shunted IAS officer’s OBC cert under lens
Pune collector Suhas Diwase’s report said the use of beacon light and displaying “Maharashtra govt” insignia on her private car were actions deemed inappropriate for her position, sources added.
Questions have also been raised about Pooja Khedkar’s appointment, with allegations that she did not fit into OBC non-creamy layer category under which she appeared for UPSC exam.

The transfer order stated that Khedkar will carry out her remaining tenure at Washim as a supernumerary assistant collector. While her transfer order cited administrative reasons, the chief secretary told TOI on Wednesday that govt had already acted on the collector’s letter and transferred her to Washim.
Washim district collector Bhubaneswari S confirmed that Khedkar has been posted at Washim collectorate. “She is yet to join and in case of delay, the matter would be reported to general administration department,” Washim collector said.
Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar said action would be initiated against her under Motor Vehicles Act for use of red and blue beacon light and “Maharashtra govt” insignia on her private car.
Khedkar was posted at the Pune district collector’s office from Mar 21, 2023, for a term which was to end in July 2025. She was issued an order on March 18, 2023, to join the Pune office as a probationary assistant collector.
Pune RTI activist Vijay Kumbhar had raised questions about Khedkar’s appointment. “She appeared for UPSC exam under OBC non-creamy layer and PwD category, where the creamy layer certificate limit is an annual parental income of Rs 8 lakh,” Kumbhar said.
TOI on Wednesday made repeated calls to Pooja as well as her father and sent text messages seeking their version on the matter. Neither of the two responded.
