Expressing displeasure over poor results in SSLC exams in the last academic year, MLA Prabhu Chavan told teachers to strive for improving performance and give a positive outcome, or submit their resignation.
Chairing a review meeting and workshop organised by the Department of Public Instructions for teachers from government schools, aided and unaided high schools at Aurad(B) taluk in Bidar district of Karnataka on June 23, Mr. Chavan said that he has pinned hopes of good results in this academic year. “Block Education Officers must take responsibility and visit schools regularly to review the performance of teachers. If teachers and officials work with interest, we can expect a good result,” he said.
Though the teachers repeatedly promise good results every academic year, they failed to keep up the promise. In the past, the taluk recorded a passing percentage of 82, which has declined to 55%, he said.
Though government schools have well-qualified teachers, why do they lag behind private schools in performance, he asked. The legislator directed the teachers to be punctual at school and complete the syllabus on time, besides conduct special classes for weak students. He warned officials not to cite teacher shortage as an excuse for poor results in SSLC.
