Manvir Singh has been released from the Indian squad due to an injury ahead of the national team’s friendly against Maldives at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong on Wednesday.

Manvir, who plays as a winger for Mohun Bagan SG in the Indian Super League (ISL), has left the camp in Shillong and will return to Kolkata, the Indian football team said in a statement.

The Punjab-born player has scored seven goals in 47 national appearances.

The Manolo Marquez-led side and the Maldives face each other ahead of the all-important AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifier, with the former taking on Bangladesh on March 25. Maldives plays Philippines next Tuesday.

The last time India faced Maldives was during the 2021 SAFF Championship group stage where the Blue Tigers secured a 3-1 win. Manvir opened the scoring for India while Chhetri scored a match-winning brace.
