PSA Squash World Championships: Indian challenge ends in second round
Indian challenge at the PSA Squash World Championships in Chicago ended in the second round on Sunday.
World No. 62 Anahat Singh, the only Indian in the women’s draw, went down 1-3 (7-11, 11-8, 4-11, 3-11) to World No. 15 Fayrouz Aboelkheir of Egypt in 28 minutes.
In the men’s field, top-ranked Indian Ramit Tandon fought hard before his defeat to England’s Marwan Elshorbagy. World No. 7 Elshorbagy won 3-2 (11-9, 11-7, 5-11, 8-11, 11-8) against World No. 34 Tandon in 57 minutes.
Veer Chotrani, who booked his spot at the main event after winning the Asian qualifiers along with the 17-year-old Anahat in Kuala Lumpur, challenged World No. 2 Ali Farag in his second-round match. However, the Egyptian, a four-time world champion, beat Chotrani 3-1 (7-11, 11-7, 11-3, 12-10) in 32 minutes.
World No. 38 Abhay Singh lost 0-3 (11-6, 11-6, 11-9) in half an hour to World No. 13 Youssef Ibrahim of Egypt.

UAE Athletics Women’s Gala: Ancy wins silver, Shaili takes bronze in long jump
Indian long jumpers Ancy Sojan and Shaili Singh both finished on the podium at the UAE Athletics Women’s Gala at the Dubai Police Club Stadium on Sunday.
Asian Games silver medallist Ancy finished second with a season’s best effort of 6.54m. Shaili Singh came third with a jump of 6.48m. Egypt’s champion Esraa Owis won gold with a distance of 6.66m. For the Indians, it was a reversal of Friday’s UAE Athletics Grand Prix where Shaili had won silver while Ancy had picked the bronze.
Karishma Sanil’s won the women’s javelin throw gold with 53.33m effort. The event had only two other competitors – UAE’s Aliazya Tarek (31.04m) and Harshita Sehrawat (16.77m).
Moumita Mondal (24.61s) clinched silver in the 200m race behind Tamzin Thomas (24.15s) of South Africa.
Niharika Vashisht, with a new personal best effort of 13.58m, finished third in women’s triple jump.

Italian Open: Bhambri-Galloway pair knocked out in first round
Yuki Bhambri and his American partner Robert Galloway were knocked out of the Italian Open in the first round on Sunday.
The Indo-American pair went down 6-1, 6-2 to the fourth-seeded Spanish-Argentine duo of Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos.
