BAREILLY: Police have booked gangster Sameer Khan alias Raka for allegedly circulating photos from high-security barrack of the Bareilly Central Jail.
An FIR was lodged in the matter at Izzatnagar police station in Bareilly on Monday. This action was taken after Izzatnagar SHO Jaishankar Singh conducted a surprise inspection of the jail following a complaint on social media.
“In a post on X, a user complained that criminals are being given facilities like mobile phones inside the jail.We paid a visit to the jail and checked the high-security barrack where Raka was kept and found that the pictures were clicked inside the barrack which means that Raka was using his phone inside the jail,” said inspector Jaishankar Singh.
Jail officials said that the gangster was released on bail on March 11. On March 13, the photo was circulated on internet media. This is the second instance in a month where inmates were found using mobile phones inside the Bareilly jail. Asif Khan, a murder accused, had streamed a live video on a social media platform from inside the Bareilly Central Jail earlier in March.
Notorious gangster Sameer was seen enjoying luxurious facilities such as mattresses, a television, and alcohol in jail in the purported pictures.
A cop, on the condition of anonymity, told

, “We checked the barrack and found that the pictures were clicked there only. Raka had an Android phone and headphones. Raka has done the same in Faizabad and other jails as well and he is politically well-connected.”
Meanwhile, Jaishankar told TOI, “We have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Prison Act and we will take custody of Raka and question him.”
