MUZAFFARNAGAR: Following an intensive anti-drug operation, police on Friday intercepted a consignment containing thousands of tablets (Spasmo) and injections (Pentazocine) covered under the NDPS Act, along with a cash haul of Rs 23 lakh. Five suspects, allegedly involved in supplying drugs to Uttarakhand, Delhi, and Haryana, were arrested in the operation, said SSP Abhishek Singh.
Two cars were also recovered, the SSP added. Acting on a tip-off, Nagar Kotwali police arrested the suspects, who were previously implicated in drug-related cases, according to the officials. The accused, operating medical stores, had connections with Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, and Delhi NCR. “Further investigations are underway to unravel the extent of the gang’s network,” said the SSP.
In response to complaints about the sale of such drugs in Muzaffarnagar, SSP Singh initiated a crackdown, leading to raids on medicine shops at the Jila Parishad wholesale medicine market and checked their stock, based on information provided by the arrested individuals.
