IOC invites Rahul Gandhi to visit US, Canada, and Europe for NRI empowerment and reforms back home

AMRITSAR: Union Budget 2024-25 has left Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) – at least those aligned with the Congress party – disappointed on certain fronts. Many NRIs have expressed concerns regarding tax policies, investment opportunities, and the overall economic environment impacting their ties and contributions to India.
Recognising these concerns, a group of NRIs led by Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) convener Rajwinder Singh held a meeting with leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to press upon the NDA government to facilitate NRIs .
Rajwinder, who was here to pay obeisance at Golden Temple, after meeting Rahul in Delhi, said, “We have arranged for Rahul Gandhi’s meetings with groups of NRI’s so he could motivate them to contribute significantly to India’s development across various sectors and his tour will also encourage investments in critical areas such as infrastructure development and technology,” adding that the Congress leader would also hold meetings with the US Democrat leaders .
While stating that the number of NRIs has multiplied in recent years and that banking on the experiences and expertise of NRIs in various business sectors can contribute to India’s development. “Rahul aims to initiate some of pilot projects in Congress-ruled states in India which will also help to strengthen ties with the diaspora,” he said.
He further said that with a focus on infrastructural development, NRIs are seen as potential investors who can participate in projects that enhance connectivity, modernize urban spaces, and improve living standards across India.
He said every NRI has relatives and families in India who provide moral support facilitates to maintain cultural ties, and also connections and opportunities in India. “This familial bond enhances the NRI’s commitment to their motherland and encourages them to contribute positively to its development,” said he.
He informed that Rahul would also visit Canada ahead of the Canadian Federal elections and then to Europe to hold meetings with the NRI.
When asked whether IOC provides any help to Indian students going to US , Canada, and other countries for studies facing initial hiccups in these countries, he said, “IOC has already set up help centers for these students and Rahul has suggested to further extend their reach to almost all the countries where Indian students go for studies so in case of any issue, they could contact the concerned IOC branch and get their issues resolved.
