Poor Performance Statistics

Kelce’s numbers were alarming. In three games into the season, he had caught only eight passes for 69 yards without a touchdown – this was the worst three-game showing of his brilliant 12-year career. Quick to spot this are those observant people and analysts, who have quickly turned speculation into wild ideas about possible off-field reasons for such abysmal production.

Off-Field Problems Speculation

There have been various theories about Kelce’s slump—reaching advanced age, almost 35; personal life distractions, especially his high-profile relationship with pop star Taylor Swift. Some fans are clamouring for Kelce to be benched for up-and-coming talent Noah Gray. Amidst the spinning speculation, Reid has made it clear his intentions before the highly anticipated Chargers game.

Reid Says It’s the Last Time He’s Going to Talk About Who Plays End

Recently, Andy Reid came out and made it very clear in an interview that he had not at all intended to bench Kelce. He said opposing defenses still look for him as a big threat. “People are saying he’s old or has distractions, but defenses don’t think that,” he said, according to Marca. Reid also went on to say the strategic value of having Kelce on the field is that it opens up space for other receivers.

Confidence in Kelce’s Work Ethic

On the other hand, Reid showed no wavering in his words about Kelce. While speaking during the media availability, he was apt enough to assure that the veteran tight end is fine and working as usual, still training very hard.
“Trav is fine. He just keeps being Trav,” he said, according to Marca, killing off sentiments that Swift has distracted him from continuing to work as an efficient offensive man for the Chiefs. “He’s not distracted; they’re making sure he’s taken care of,” Reid added, stamping out doubts on the player.
