SRINAGAR: A suspended professor from Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) in J&K was convicted and sentenced Wednesday to a year in rigorous imprisonment for sexually harassing a student in 2022. The verdict was delivered by Adil Mushtaq Bandey, chief judicial magistrate of Sopore in northern Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
A fine of Rs 15,000 was also imposed on Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, who headed the agriculture extension and communication department of the university’s Wadura campus. He had been suspended following campus protests after a student accused him of sexual harassment. The trial concluded in nine months.
