Jaya Bachchan and Shweta Bachchan Nanda along with Navya Nanda have kick-started the season 2 of ‘What The Hell Navya’. The Bachchan ladies discussed the role of women at work and the kind of challenges that they face at workplace. They also shed light on the stereotypes surrounding women in their profession. While discussing it, Navya pointed out that being a home-maker is a full time job but nobody seems to value it.Navya asked Shweta and Jaya that being a mom is a full time job but does the society consider it like that?
Shweta replied and said, “It’s not given any respect. It’s just something you’re supposed to do. But if you stop house-wifing, everything will go helter-skelter. It’s something which is just taken for granted. Nobody even writes it in a form as a profession that you’re a houswife. You’re doing HR, finance, day-to-day management. You’re basically running a mini business and shaping up minds.”
Navya responded and further asked, that the role of being a mother is a thankless job? Shweta said, “It’s a thankless job and you’re the biggest example of that in front of my eyes.” Navya quipped, “What do you mean? I am grateful!” Shweta answered, “You may be grateful in your head but how often do you show? Once in a year may be on mother’s day, you will pull out a picture and put it on Instagram.”
Jaya Bachchan also added and said, “It’s just taken for granted.” When asked about the role women play in decision-making, Jaya said that the men in her house are not like that. They respect women and involve them in the decision making process, so she’s privileged. However, it’s not the same in every household.
The ladies also shed light on how the standards of beauty and the stereotypes around it are changing. Navya revealed that she’s often told that she’s so pretty, she should be an actress. So, there’s this perception that anyone who is good looking has to either be a model or an actress.
