In a jolt to the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), former Minister and senior leader Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao, popularly known as Avanthi Srinivas, has tendered resignation from the party. Mr. Srinivas had distanced himself from the party after he lost the elections held in June this year.
Mr. Srinivas served as the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Youth Advancement in the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy cabinet. He was dropped from State Cabinet in the reshuffle Mr. Reddy affected in April 2022.
In a letter addressed to Mr. Reddy, the former Minister Srinivas cited personal reasons for his resignation to the post of the Bheemili Assembly Constituency in-charge and also to the primary membership of the party. He sent the letter to the party North Andhra regional coordinator and Rajya Sabha member V. Vijayasai Reddy and party district president Gudivada Amarnath.
Speaking to the media persons in Visakhapatnam after his resignation, Mr. Srinivas said the newly formed government should be given some time to settle down. The former Minister said he was unhappy with the party leadership targeting the government in less than six months.
Educationalist-turned-politician, Mr. Srinivas, was a two-time MLA from the Bheemili Assembly constituency and won as an MP from the Anakapalli Lok Sabha segment in 2014. He joined the YSRCP before the 2019 elections and won from Bheemili.
A Kapu leader, Mr. Srinivas is likely to join Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party, sources said.
