Fenerbache head coach Jose Mourinho has been handed a three-match ban for his post-match antics against Galatasaray.

This decision by the Turkish Football Federation comes after the Portuguese tactician was seen grabbing Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk’s nose. This happened after Galatasaray won the Turkish Cup quarterfinal tie 2-1 on Wednesday, April 2.

After the incident, Galatasaray mocked Mourinho on social media with a post saying, “You should not attack, you should digest. ”Another post featured a cartoon of the coach with the caption “Galatasaray drives you crazy.”

Fenerabache then released a statement, accussing Buruk of provoking Mourinho by making “disrespectful hand gestures” after the match. The club stated that Mourinho’s action was a response to “planned, excessive provocations” and claimed that Buruk exaggerated the incident by throwing himself to the ground as if he had been “shot.”

Fenerbahce also alleged that Buruk had a history of such behavior during his playing and coaching career.

In the Super Lig, Turkey’s first-tier, Galatasaray tops the standings with 71 points in 28 matches, while Fenerbache sits in second with 65 points, having played a game less than its rival.
