Security has been heightened at the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad) following demands from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal for its removal.

The right-wing groups have urged the state government to take action and dismantle the tomb, citing its controversial historical significance. The situation has led to increased vigilance in the area to ensure public safety and prevent any potential unrest.

“Considering Shivaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary (as per ‘Tithi’), today’s date has been chosen for the protest… He tortured Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj for 40 days before killing him… If someone worships a cruel ruler and makes him an icon, then that is unacceptable… Our demand is that this symbol of slavery (Aurangzeb’s grave) has to be removed… Why should any signs of him be here?” Shende told ANI.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA T Raja Singh on Monday reaffirmed his commitment to establishing India as a “Hindu Rashtra” and called for the removal of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb in Khuldabad, located in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.

“The Hindus in Maharashtra want that Aurangzeb’s grave should be eliminated from the state. Kab tutegi Aurangzeb ki kabr? I have only resolved now – to make India a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ and remove Aurangzeb’s grave,” Singh said while addressing the gathering, as reported by ANI.

He said that it was not only Hindus in Maharashtra but Hindus of the entire nation who were asking, “Why is Aurangzeb’s grave still here?”

Earlier on Saturday, Bajrang Dal leader Nitin Mahajan demanded the removal of the Aurangzeb tomb in Sambhajinagar and said that if the government fails to do so, then the tomb will meet the same fate like Babri Masjid.

“In Sambhajinagar, a (Aurangzeb’s grave) grave is being worshipped. The grave of Sambhaji’s murderer is being built… When such graves are worshipped, then the society also develops in that manner… At that time, we were helpless…but now Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal are demanding that it should be removed… On March 17, we will demand to the government that it should be removed… We will greet the government if they remove it, but if that does not happen, then VHP and Bajrang Dal will come out on the streets and launch a huge agitation,” Nitin Mahajan told ANI.

Congress National Spokesperson Atul Londhe Patil said that the situation is tense in Maharashtra, adding that law and order have collapsed in the state.

Reacting to this, Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar on Monday said that Bajrang Dal and VHP don’t want the people of Maharashtra to live peacefully.

Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora told ANI, “… If some people don’t know the difference between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Aurangzeb, then they should go back to school… The people have no expectations from parties like Shiv Sena (UBT) and they have given them a lesson twice… These parties are rejected because they compromised with the ideology of Balasaheb Thackeray…”
