Kalki 2898 AD gets a warm welcome at Busan International Film Festival
Produced by Vyjayanthi Movies & directed by Nag Ashwin, the movie managed to impress the audiences with its stunning visuals and engaging story, making a strong mark for Indian cinema globally. Although none of the actors could make it to the screening due to prior work or personal commitments, it was attended by producers Swapna and Priyanka Dutt, who were glad about the audience’s positive reaction. Sharing a set of pictures on their social media the makers wrote, “An unforgettable moment We’re truly overwhelmed by the incredible response for #Kalki2898AD at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival. @busanfilmfest”.
Readers would be aware that the film combines elements of Indian mythology and futuristic themes. Its success at Busan highlights its appeal to international audience. For the unversed, Kalki 2898 AD is inspired by Hindu scriptures, and is the first instalment in a planned Kalki Cinematic Universe.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world in the year 2898 AD, the film follows a select group who are on a mission to save lab subject SUM-80 (Deepika Padukone)’s unborn child, Kalki from Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan) who has tasked bounty hunter Bhairava (Prabhas) to find the subject. Starring Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwathama, Disha Patani as Roxie, among others, the film boasts of an ensemble cast. It released in multiple languages including in Hindi in cinemas on June 27 this year.
