Bollywood filmmaker and popular host Karan Johar is set to host a charity gala for the Move for Cancer Awareness (MCAN) initiative, led by designer and philanthropist Maheka Mirpuri. A Cause Close to Karan Johar’s Heart
This will mark Johar’s second time hosting the MCAN charity gala, a platform aimed at supporting underprivileged patients battling head and neck cancer. Expressing her gratitude, Mirpuri, quoted in a report by Mid-Day, highlighted Johar’s personal connection to the cause, saying, “Those who know Karan know he is all heart. This cause is close to him, which makes his support more meaningful as he helps us raise much-needed funds.”
Maheka Mirpuri’s Personal Mission
Maheka Mirpuri, who spearheads the Move for Cancer Awareness initiative, revealed the personal reason behind her commitment to the cause. “Due to a loss in my family, this cause is very personal to me. We are thankful to Karan for believing in it and hosting the fundraiser through a live auction,” she said.
Mirpuri’s foundation has made a significant impact over the last 11 years, helping over 2,500 underprivileged cancer patients. All the funds raised go directly to Tata Memorial Hospital, ensuring that the initiative remains transparent and focused solely on the cause. She emphasized, “Every rupee collected goes straight to the hospital. I consider myself merely a medium.”
Aiming for Greater Impact
Since its inception, the charity has raised approximately Rs 10 crore for the Tata Memorial Hospital, contributing significantly to cancer treatment and care. Mirpuri is optimistic about this year’s event, aiming to double the impact with Johar’s support. “The last time Karan hosted the event, he created magic, helping us raise an incredible amount. This year, we hope to double that impact,” she concluded.
